Are there any plans to create a downloadable install file for OCTGN?

It would be nice to have it as a reinstall backup in case of hard drive issues or if online support disappears.

As it stands now if the project goes offline and your hard drive has a problem OCTGN would be gone forever.  It'd be nice to have an archived backup so it'd be possible to do an independent install.

I really like the program and it'd be painful to lose it if something unforseeable happens.

Sorry! I know, I'm a negative thinker. The glass is always half empty Cry

Sounds like you are asking for two things in one.

You seem to want to be able to download the installer, it also appears you want a independent directory where everything is stored and can be moved.

While I know there is an independent download, I know it has had issues, or sometimes didn't update properly from my understanding.

As far as archiving your install, I don't see a reason at this point. The program is still in beta, and sets are constantly changing and being revised. You would spend more time archiving your stuff then you would redownloading it at a later date.

The independent download is all I'm asking for.

The directory structure is fine the way it is.  It's nice that the program updates itself with a minimum of fuss.  I just want to be able to have a way to independently install from disk at a later date if something unforseeable occurs.  The sets are a non-issue.  They're already archivable as is.

I guess my concern is what happens to the program if Jods loses interest or has a life-altering epiphany and decides to move to Tahiti and give up all modern technology?  The example might be silly, but crazy stuff can happen.

I understand it's still in beta, but given the choice between having beta OCTGN or no OCTGN, I'd pick beta OCTGN.

An indepedent installer would ensure the longevity of the program.  The program requires a fair amount of time to setup with all the necessary downoads for whatever game you want to play, it would be nice to have a guarantee that people can use what they've downloaded well into the future.

The way OCTGN is distributed will probably not change before the final release, or at least late beta. Just because there are often breaking changes and I'd like to be sure everyone gets the updates.

It's actually quite possible to run OCTGN as a regular .exe, I actually do that all the time when developing.

Now regarding your worries: be happy! ;-)
OCTGN is not going to disappear anytime soon. Should that happen at one point I'll surely provide a direct download. And even if this site goes down and I have an "accident" (I feel a conspiration there...), the whole OCTGN source code is publicly available at sourceforge.com, where anyone could grab it and build the client.
