I find strange that no more than 30/35 ppl at best are logged in simultaneously in the chat room and ALL of them play Mtg only... I strongly suppose that a certain number of players (unkown to me : most, some, few ?) meet through another means.

Having a chat room inside octgn would centralize EVERY players from EVERY games, will give accurate stats on how octgn is used etc etc..

A lot play through AIM. I mean a LOT. I have seen other forums where other games have been made, and most discuss playing through AIM on a 1-on-1 basis. The same goes for using Hamachi.

Well I am not sure how easy it is for jods to just throw a IRC client into his program. I am sure there is quite a bit of work behind, and honestly don't think it is high priority.

I mean he might as well implement something with voice chat at that point. Smiley

Also what protocols do you use? A lot of people have issues hosting, well those same people might have issues using a chat client. Most universities block IRC for piracy reasons, so it couldn't be an IRC client unless you found a server that supported different ports than the default ones, and I can't see the point of using mibbit or something inside the OCTGN2 client.

In short, it is a good idea, but I think low priority. There is a lot of work I think that would be required, and deciding on exactly what route to take could be troublesome.

hehe no doubt it should (will) be low priority given the fact we have other tools to meet players.

Not sure if it has to be an IRC client strictly spoken. It has to be "irc-like" ie displaying a list of users connected to and their messages. I don't think it has to be reachable from "the outside" ie without octgn and through a #join or sth from a true IRC client.
